2011 Wish List for Bogotá

What can bogotanos hope for for their city in 2011? This tree, on the grounds of La Candelaria's neighborhood archive, has leaves of wishes. Many ask for peace and happiness for the world, but others have more specific appeals.

The note on the left was one of several asking for an end to the rains and assistance for flood victims. The note on the right asked for a quick end to the term of Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno, who is entangled in a scandal over alleged corruption.

This person appeals for assistance for senior citizens, including reduced Transmilenio fares.

Other wishes for Bogotá and Colombia in  2011:

- That the various transit projects finally get finished. And that the city finally gets serious about reducing traffic congestion.

- That the country's armed conflict continue deescalating.

- That the nation's poverty level drops

- That authorities finally take real measures against Bogotá's pollution

- That the country's millions of displaced people find their way home.

- That the victims of kidnapping are reunited with their families.

- That the many thousands of people devastated by flooding can put their lives back together.
